Welcome to the new Publicedcenter.org

Welcome to the new Publicedcenter.org, the official site of the Public Education Center (PEC). Since 1989, PEC reporters have been behind some of the most important national security, environmental, and international stories of the last two decades. We have provided groundbreaking information to organizations like 60 Minutes, PBS, BBC, NHK, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, USA Today and many others that resulted in revelations that brought about real change.

Our method of operation is to do the investigative groundwork on these stories and then partner with a major media outlet to bring the story to the public. Our stories have tracked down terrorists, exposed the A. Q. Khan nuclear proliferation network, and showed how environmental toxins are poisoning our families. This work has won every major journalism award including the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for investigative reporting.

Our success comes from our reporters’ dogged pursuit of the truth, our ability to identify story ideas that are relevant to people’s lives, and our skill at finding the evidence and the interviews that make these stories come to life. Our work has changed governments overseas and improved our own at home.

DCBureau.org is the venue for our breaking stories. We continue to work with our media partners on many other stories and investigations.

News coverage of Washington issues that are important to local communities is at an all-time low. News bureaus have closed and coverage has shrunk by 75% due to alarming budget constraints. DCBureau.org makes it possible for us to bring in-depth, investigative reporting directly to you.

Any story on this site is available for you to link to or post at no charge. You can use our articles and graphics providing you credit us for the work and do not edit or change its meaning or content in any way without prior permission.

We cannot do these stories without your participation and support. If you are a local media organization that needs help covering Washington-based stories, we want to hear from you. We believe in collaboration and making certain we share credit for good work. After all, we may need help on a story one day in your area.
