DCBureau.org launches with investigations of Pentagon Mistreatment of Marine Corps Families and an unlicensed company selling influence in Iraq

New site offers investigations for free use to all news platforms and gives journalists access to breaking investigations

WASHINGTON D.C., June 29, 2009 - The nonprofit Public Education Center (PEC), an investigative journalism organization whose reporters have produced stories for the New York Times, ABC, PBS and numerous other outlets, is now making stories available at DCBureau.org. The new site will run original investigative stories.

Led by legendary investigative journalists Joe and Susan Trento, DCBureau.org will include a news feed offering journalists and editors free access to breaking investigatigations. For almost 20 years PEC reporters have worked with journalists to bring important investigative stories to the public – they provided the tip that won David Barstow of the New York Times this year’s Pulitzer Prize for investigative reporting.

Journalists can sign up for email alerts by visiting www.DCBureau.org.

With the launch, PEC released Poisoned Patriots, by reporter Adam Sarvana. Poisoned Patriots chronicles the efforts of former residents of Camp Lejeune to force the military to disclose whether 30 years of contaminated well water led to the deaths of children, wives, and husbands.

Additionally, DCBureau.org features National Security correspondent Adam Lichtenheld’s latest story uncovering an unlicensed firm working as a middleman between American war profiteers and Iraqi officials.

All current PEC Web sites: naturalresourcesnewsservice.org (nrns.org); storiesthatmatter.org; and iraqwarnews.org will be folded into the new site, DCBureau.org.

Joe and Susan Trento may be contacted for comment on the stories investigated by calling 202-466-4310. Joe Trento was previously a pioneering investigative reporter for CNN and began his career working for columnist Jack Anderson. Susan Trento, the author of The Power House, is a recognized authority on the intersection of lobbying, public relations, and government in Washington DC, and has appeared on numerous major television and radio programs.

PEC’s National Security News Service (NSNS) was founded in 1989. It was the first nonprofit journalism organization that worked in the public interest covering the intelligence community and the Pentagon. The success of NSNS led to the creation of the Natural Resources News Service (NRNS) in 1993 to cover the environment.

For almost 20 years, PEC’s two news services have worked with journalists to cover important investigative stories.
